Minister Moavero Milanesi on mission in Warsaw

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, is on a mission to Warsaw on 13 and 14 February to attend the Ministerial Conference “Promoting a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East”, organised at the initiative of the United States of America and hosted by the Polish Government.

The American delegation led by Vice President Mike Pence also includes the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Advisor to President Trump for the Middle East, Jared Kushner. The meeting will also be attended by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as by around thirty Foreign Ministers of the Countries of the EU, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Africa. Overall, approximately fifty Countries will participate in the summit.

The Warsaw Conference offers the opportunity for an in-depth analysis of the current dynamics and the future scenarios in the Middle East. Particular attention shall be focused on the situation in Syria and Yemen, on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and Iran. The agenda includes a debate on major transnational issues such as: assistance for refugees, cybersecurity, combating terrorism and its financing, and the proliferation of missiles.

The participation of Minister Moavero follows in the path of intensifying relations between the United States and Italy, which was reaffirmed and consolidated during the Minister’s mission to Washington, last 3 and 4 January. In relation to the Middle East in particular, Minister Moavero also recently visited Israel and Palestine (from 26 to 30 January).
