Deputy Foreign Minister Del Re meets with the Executive Director of the “Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria”.

Today at the Farnesina, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met with Peter Sands, the Executive Director of the “Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria”. The meeting offered the opportunity to take stock of the situation ahead of the refinancing Conference of Lyon next 9-10 October. In the 2017-19 three-year period, Italy contributed 140 million dollars to the Global Fund, accounting for the Italian Cooperation service’s largest financial multilateral contribution.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister also drew Mr Sands’ attention on the fragility of the health conditions in Libya, asking him to explore the way the Fund could also act in the African Countries of origin and transit of migration flows towards Europe.
Deputy Minister Del Re and Peter Sands later received a delegation of “young ambassadors” of the Italian Chapter of the ONE Association, an international civil society organisation led by Bono Vox, who presented their own campaign calling on Italy to raise its contribution to the Global Fund.
