The case of Italian climber Cassardo

Upon the immediate and compelling impulse of Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi, the Foreign Ministry and the Italian Embassy in Pakistan immediately contacted the local Authorities yesterday, obtaining the intervention of a helicopter rescue mission. According to the information available, the operation has been impossible up to now for technical reasons, which have made it impossible for Pakistan’s rescue helicopters to land at the high altitude at which Francesco Cassardo had the accident. The Foreign Minister instructed the Ambassador to do his utmost to assure the necessary assistance. In the meantime, two climbing experts have reached the place of the accident, and intend to carry Francesco Cassandro to a lower altitude, to enable helicopters to reach him safely. The Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Italian climber’s family and with the Pakistani Authorities; it will also continue to give an update as this difficult situation evolves.
