Fourth annual session of the Joint Committee on Development Cooperation

Today the Farnesina hosted the 4th annual session of the Joint Committee on Development Cooperation, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re.

The Joint Committee approved a package of initiatives worth a total of 78 million euros, 50 million of which in tied aid to complete the consolidation works on the Mosul Dam in Iraq. The Committee also approved contributions to Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Colombia as well as to United Nations Agencies and programmes.

On opening the meeting, Deputy Minister Del Re informed the participants of the result of her recent mission to the Horn of Africa. In connection to this, she highlighted the success of the Italy-Ethiopia Business Forum which was attended by 50 Italian and 200 local companies. She then recalled that, together with President Farmajo, she attended the first diploma awarding ceremony of the Somalian National University, whose full operability was also fostered by the constant commitment of the Italian Cooperation service. With reference to her participation in the G7 Development meeting held in Paris last week, she affirmed that a G7+G5 Sahel joint declaration was adopted on the actions to be taken to tackle the emergencies in the region. At the initiative of Italy, the text makes reference to the role played by the diasporas and by civil society organisations working to foster the development of the communities of origin of migrants.
