Today, at the Farnesina, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea, Osman Saleh.
In the course of the meeting, the two ministers exchanged an update on the progress made in the two Countries’ bilateral relations. In particular, the Eritrean minister expressed great interest for Italian investments, especially in port infrastructure, within the framework of the strong expansion of maritime connections that is being recorded between the Mediterranean and East Asia via the Indian Ocean, also thanks to the Italian initiative.
In addition, the two ministers made an overview of the situation in the Horn of Africa and the recent positive developments there. Lastly, they analysed the situation of civil rights in Eritrea, with special reference to rural dispensaries and hospitals and to the debate within the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
