Minister Moavero Milanesi meets with the Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed Maitig

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, met with the new Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed Maitig, for an update on the latest developments in Libya, especially following the alarming and tragic bombing of the Tajoura migrant centre, in which a large number of defenceless people were killed or seriously wounded. Minister Moavero confirmed Italy’s firm support to the UN’s action in Libya aimed at achieving the cessation of hostilities and stopping their continuous escalation as quickly as possible. Furthermore, Minister Moavero reaffirmed Italy’s request for an in-depth investigation into what happened in Tajoura and recalled that yesterday he formally proposed to the European Union to adopt an official unitary position on the matter.
