The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, received at the Farnesina Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre Abdulraqeb Saif Fateh Al-Dubai, Yemen’s minister of local administration and chairman of Yemen’s High Relief Committee. The meeting focused on the ongoing conflict and the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed Italy’s conviction that only a political solution to the conflict can pave the way to solving the current humanitarian crisis. Italy has always supported the UN-led mediation process and the efforts of the UN Special Envoy, as the only remaining viable option. “We are fully aware of the suffering of the Yemeni population and we must urgently put an end to it,” said Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re. Italy made a 5-million-euro contribution to assure humanitarian assistance during the current year, which have already been
distributed among the international organisations on the ground to support humanitarian operations, especially in the sector of food security, health and the protection of the most vulnerable groups. A further 1-million-euro contribution will be made in the course of 2019 to support humanitarian demining and healthcare activities. Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re and Minister Abdulraqeb also analysed some of the critical points in accessing the humanitarian aid provided to the Country and the need reconsider all customs and tax provisions in order to facilitate the entry of humanitarian relief
supplies into the Country.
