Campione d’Italia’s Inclusion into the EU Customs Area. Relevant Italian and Swiss Agencies Reach an Understanding on Specific Bilateral Issues.

On December 20, in Bern, an Exchange of Notes took place between Italy and Switzerland concerning specific bilateral issues related to the change of customs and tax status of the Italian exclave of Campione d’Italia.

Ensuring legal certainty and facilitating the transition to the new status are the basic aims of the agreement, particularly regarding services provided by Swiss companies and entities.

All relevant Italian agencies, coordinated by the Italian Foreign Ministry, have been involved in reaching this understanding, which also proves how all parties are open to mutual consultation where appropriate, as might be the case for insurance services and support services to Poste Italiane. It also confirms both countries’ commitment to promote the timely signing of an agreement on joint customs controls, in order to facilitate compliance at the border between Campione d’Italia and Bissone.
