Scalfarotto: Talks with Switzerland on the border situation

“Today I spoke with the Swiss Ambassador in Rome, Rita Adam, to discuss with her the situation of Italian cross-border workers. We have jointly agreed on the importance of ensuring the continuity of the opening of the border between the two countries and that workplaces are accessible to our workers under the highest health and safety conditions”. This was stated by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in charge of bilateral relations with European countries, Hon. Ivan Scalfarotto. “I have also pointed out – says the Undersecretary – the additional difficulties that border crossers are facing due to the closing of a number of border crossing points and called for actions to be taken as far as possible to ensure that jobs are preserved respecting the workers’ need to return to their families on a daily basis and avoiding “forced” overnight stays on the other side of the border”.

“Finally, we have agreed with the Ambassador that we will be in regular touch over the next few days in order to continue to monitor the situation together. Following the talks – concluded Hon. Scalfarotto – I have then briefed the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, to whom I assured the full institutional collaboration of the Government on this matter”.
