Global Partnership for Education: conversation between VM Del Re and Alice Albright

Today the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, had an interview with the CEO of the “Global Partnership for Education” (GPE), Alice Albright, the leading international partnership dedicated to access to education in developing countries that brings together donor states, developing countries, civil society, philanthropy and the private sector.

The conversation provided an opportunity for an update on the state of education in the context of the pandemic, with a focus on developing countries, where the digital divide is an additional barrier to access to learning opportunities. In particular, Alice Albright stressed out the importance of mobilisation of 500 million dollars in emergency response interventions in developing countries and offered an update on the programming of the refinancing of the partnership, recognising the commitment of Italy in support to GPE and appreciating the many programs of the Italian Cooperation in the education sector, particularly in Africa. Ms Albright also complimented the exemplary resilience shown by Italy and the Italians in tackling the pandemic.

Vice Minister Del Re reassured her interlocutor that Italy is paying the utmost attention to the issue of access to education for all and confirmed the commitment to keep the issue among the priorities of the development agenda of the G20 Presidency, which Italy will exercise in 2021.
