Cooperation; Sereni, support for Global Fund activities

Talks in video conference format between the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina Sereni, and Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund, whose activities are very important in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in developing countries.

“Italy,” Ms. Sereni said, “is proud to have contributed, in 2001, to the establishment of the Global Fund, which has saved millions of lives and provided prevention, treatment and care services to so many people thanks to its funding capacity and global network. The Global Fund continues to play a vital role also in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused a setback in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. This is why we will support the Global Fund’s efforts in the coming years to regain lost ground. Our country,” Vice Minister Sereni continued, “has consistently supported a multilateral response and the need for greater coordination and solidarity at the global level to end the pandemic crisis. The recent Declaration at the Global Health Summit in Rome significantly envisages how we can work together to defeat this pandemic and prevent any other.”

Italy has a multi-year contribution agreement with the Global Fund for 2020-2022, which is the single largest voluntary multilateral contribution made by Italian Cooperation system.
