VM Del Re at the Eu – Working with Africa to attract private investment

Vice Minister Emanuela Del Re attended the informal meeting of EU Development Ministers in VTC. The meeting was dedicated to the way Europe can assist the African continent in the post-Covid period and to the implementation of the Europe Package Team, a package of initiatives prepared by the Commission and Member States in response to the emergency of  COVID 19 outbreak in partner countries.

In her speech, the Vice Minister recalled how Italy has supported Team Europe since the beginning. “We initially focused on the three sectors that we considered as a priority in the context of Covid emergency: humanitarian emergency, health sector, support to economic sectors. Now we need to go further and expand this to other sectors. I believe the first should be food security.” – she said.

“Italian cooperation is committed to promoting the link between the humanitarian, development and peace approach, convinced that precisely in the field of food security and nutrition we can maximize the results of our action” – VM Del Re continued.

“For the development of the African continent, private investment is now more than ever a necessity. The level of investment depends on stability, on the solidity of the State Administrations, on a reliable banking and credit system. We must invest to strengthen the institutions of our partners, to improve the investment climate, to consolidate the credit system. Only then will private investors consider long-term investments” .

“To be able to do this we must work with African leaders and together improve the way we tell Africa and its opportunities” – she concluded.
