Del Re chairs the second Humanitarian Aid Coordination Meeting in Lebanon

Vice Minister Emanuela Del Re chaired the second session of the Coordination Table for Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction in Lebanon, which was attended by representatives of the Presidency of the Council, ministries, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), local government bodies and the private sector.

The Ambassador of Lebanon in Italy, Mira Daher, attended part of the meeting. In her speech she thanked for the strong solidarity received from our country and took stock of the ongoing humanitarian needs and the expectations and hopes of the population.

The Vice Minister Del Re expressed her satisfaction for the increasingly qualified participation in the coordination table by Italian bodies, which highlights the willingness of the country’s system to intensify its multidimensional contribution to Lebanon’s recovery, also in a long-term perspective. In explaining the contents of his recent visit to Beirut Del Re, he reported on the contacts on the spot with the local authorities, the United Nations and the CSOs active in the field. These contacts have further strengthened the conviction, he said, that coordination, both in Italy and Lebanon, is essential.

“The Italian contribution must remain multidimensional and strategic, giving priority to quality and sustainability,” Del Re pointed out, “Italy has always been present in Lebanon in many areas. In this delicate phase, we must intensify our intervention by focusing on social cohesion and helping all sections of the population, without distinction, in all areas of the country”.

“Today’s meeting” – he concluded – “allowed us to verify how the coordination started in August is proving effective: aid from Italy has intensified and new initiatives will be defined, including interventions for the reconstruction of Lebanon’s cultural heritage”.
