“The Deputy Minister Ivan Scalfarotto co-chaired the Italy-San Marino Joint Committee at the Italian Foreign Ministry, together with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of San Marino, Luca Beccari, accompanied by the Secretaries of State for Finance, Budget and Transport, Marco Gatti and for Labour, Economic Planning, Sport, Information, Teodoro Lonfernini.
The meetings of the various working groups were held by video conferencing, with a focus on financial issues, the radio and TV broadcasting cooperation agreement and the supply of energy to San Marino. Participants on the Italian side comprised representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Bank of Italy, the State Accounting Department, the Ministry for Economic Development, and the Department for Information and Publishing of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
“The meeting of the Italy-San Marino Joint Committee is a clear and tangible sign of the Italian will to relaunch bilateral dialogue with San Marino, marking a real change in the relations between the two countries” said the Deputy Minister. “The Joint Committee is meeting only 13 days after the meeting between Minister Di Maio and Secretary Beccari. The very short time required to convene the meeting testifies to Italy’s determination and, I’m sure, of San Marino as well, to mark a real change of pace in out bilateral relationship”.
“Having two States cohabiting in the same territory is a great opportunity and a competitive advantage, but also requires the responsibility of ensuring mutual information and communication, in order to seize and maximise these opportunities and advantages” – he concluded, agreeing with Mr. Beccari that today’s meeting should mark the beginning of a new phase in what are already cordial bilateral relations, based on a more intense and continuous collaboration”.
