Vice Minister Del Re at CIHEAM in Bari

The Vice Minister Emanuela Del Re visited the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Bari. The CIHEAM is an intergovernmental body operating in the field of sustainable agricultural development to which 13 countries of the Mediterranean basin belong. Since 1962, the Centre has been carrying out post-graduate training, applied research and design and implementation of cooperation interventions.

The Italian Cooperation, through the General Directorate for Development Cooperation of the visit and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, supports the activities of CIHEAM and CIHEAM Bari both through a compulsory contribution and through voluntary contributions for specific initiatives.

At the centre of the visit of the Vice Minister: joint programmes and projects in the fields of agricultural development, agro-industry, agro-business, food security and sustainability, future opportunities in Africa, in particular in the Sahel, the strengthening of the collaboration between CIHEAM and the Italian Cooperation system. The Vice Minister met the Director Maurizio Raeli and the Italian delegate in the CaA of the Centre, Teodoro Miano. She then visited the entire compound and the centre’s state-of-the-art laboratories, greeting the staff.

“The CIHEAM of Bari, starting from its original Mediterranean vocation, is carrying out more and more projects in Africa and Asia”. – said Del Re – “Today, this is a place that, thanks to research, training and partnerships, gives prestige to Italy and the Mediterranean as a driving force for innovation in the economic, agricultural and environmental fields”.
