The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, stated: “The lifting of sanctions by the United States against the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and members of her staff, reversing the previous decision of the Trump Administration, is excellent news for international criminal justice.”
The Deputy Minister continued: “Even if the road to full cooperation is still long, with this decision, despite a substantial disagreement on the mandate of the Court of which the United States is not part, President Biden has shown that he is calling for dialogue rather than confrontation”.
He concluded: “Italy remains convinced that an international order based on universally recognised rules is the best means of combating impunity concerning war crimes and crimes against humanity which, as we see in these days, continue to be perpetrated above all against civilian populations”..
