On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States, Minister Luigi Di Maio is leaving today for Washington for a two-day visit, starting tomorrow, during which he will be engaged in high-level meetings with government officials and prominent figures from US civil society. The talks will focus on the excellent bilateral relations, vaccine cooperation and post-Covid recovery, Libya and the main international issues including the central themes of Italy’s G20 Presidency and co-partnership of COP26.
On 12 April, the visit will include talks with Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH), Dr. Anthony Fauci, as well as discussions with members of leading US think tanks: Karen Donfried, President of the German Marshall Fund, John Allen, President of Brookings, and Frederick Kempe, President of the Atlantic Council.
On Tuesday 13 April, the Minister will take part in an event celebrating 160 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States, and will then visit the US House of Representatives, where he will pay tribute to police officer William Evans, who was killed in the attack on 2 April, also briefly paying his respects to the Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.
