Minister Luigi Di Maio’s meeting with the Palestinian Foreign Minister

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi di Maio, met today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Palestinian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Riad Malki.

Minister Di Maio firstly emphasised the importance of the Palestinian electoral process and reconciliation for the consolidation of institutions and in view of a hoped-for resumption of peace negotiations with Israel.

In confirming Italy’s position in favour of a fair, equitable and sustainable two-state solution, the Foreign Minister highlighted the joint Italian-Spanish initiative to restore centrality to the peace process and to revitalise the International Quartet (UN, EU, US, Russian Federation) as the only internationally recognised mediation format.

Finally, Minister Di Maio called for a strengthening of economic and trade relations and recalled with satisfaction the commitment of Italian development cooperation favouring the Palestinian population.
