Referring to a number of articles that have appeared today in some national newspapers in relation to the case of the transfer from the United States to Italy of the Italian prisoner Enrico Forti, this Ministry wishes to clarify that there has been no “loss” of documentation.
The transfer to Italy of Mr. Forti is a complex procedure involving several US administrations, most notably the State of Florida and the US Federal Department of Justice.
On the Italian side, in this phase the Italian Ministry of Justice is following the transfer directly. At the same time, the Italian Embassy in Washington and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Rome are following developments in the case. In particular, Minister Di Maio has discussed it several times with US Secretary of State Blinken.
In the meantime, the State of Florida has recently transferred Mr. Forti to a penitentiary used for inmates awaiting transfer.
