Note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Italy expresses satisfaction at the renewal of the IRINI mandate

Italy warmly welcomes the renewal for another year of the mandate of the EU Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI by the UN Security Council, via the extension of Resolution 2292 of 2016.

Pursuant to that Resolution, IRINI will be able to continue operating for compliance with the arms embargo on Libya, contributing concretely to the implementation of the commitments undertaken at the Berlin Conference on January 19, 2020.

IRINI will be able to continue to carry out its mission effectively and impartially, as it has done up to now and as is recognised by the United Nations.

Being determined to contribute to the goal of a lasting and sustainable stabilisation of Libya, Italy has been actively involved in IRINI since it was established, taking on specific responsibilities such as operational command and the provision of resources and personnel.
