Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina Sereni, holds a meeting with the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Nasser Kamel

A meeting was held today, at the Foreign Ministry, between the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina Sereni, and the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Nasser Kamel. During the meeting, which took place in the wake of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration, to which the Vice Minister contributed through the Voices of the Mediterranean campaign, Kamel expressed his thanks for Italy’s commitment to the UfM, expressing deep appreciation for the dynamism of Italy’s commitment in the Mediterranean region. Both stressed the excellent level of mutual cooperation in initiatives regarding priority sectors, such as the blue economy, energy transition and the fight against climate change. Both parties were also in full agreement on the importance of a multilateral approach in addressing the challenges and risks in the Mediterranean region.

Vice Minister Sereni also mentioned the seventh edition of the international “ROME MED-Dialogues” conference, set to be held from 2 to 4 December and organised by the Foreign Ministry in partnership with ISPI. Kamel confirmed his participation in the event and acknowledged its importance as the principal existing discussion forum for the Mediterranean region.

Finally, Vice Minister Sereni referred to the Italian-Spanish initiative for reviving the Middle East Peace Process, about which Kamel expressed interest and support.
