As part of the national response to the Afghan crisis, a 1.5 million euro UNHCR project funded from the Migration Fund will begin on 15 September to prepare for the flow of Afghans who may find refuge in the countries of the region.
The initiative will contribute to UNHCR’s emergency response to ensure the organisation’s preparedness to receive and assist Afghan refugees in the region: basic necessities and hygiene kits for nearly 70,000 beneficiaries will be provided in the border areas of Afghanistan, with a specific focus on women’s needs.
This project strengthens Italy’s response to the appeal of the United Nations High Commissioner for Afghan Refugees and contributes to the migration strategy for Afghanistan and the region that is being defined by the Foreign Ministry, in implementation of the Italian plan to support the Afghan people.
