Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio meets the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, has received  at the Foreign Ministry the Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi. The talks have focused on the main dossiers relating to the enlarged Mediterranean region.

With regard to Libya, Minister Di Maio has reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting the political transition process through the achievement of two priority objectives: the elections to be held on 24 December and the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign fighters.

With reference to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Minister Di Maio has called for the revitalisation of the diplomatic initiative for a political solution to the conflict, confirming the identity of views with Jordan on the prospect of a two-State solution and respect for the status quo in the Holy Places.

The two Ministers have also exchanged views on other major current regional issues, such as the Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism, recording important convergence of opinions, thus confirming the strong bond of friendship that underlies bilateral relations.
