The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Nasser Bourita and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic, Mr. Luigi Di Maio, spoke by telephone on November 9, 2021.
During the conversation, the two Ministers commented favorably on the excellent state of relations between Morocco and Italy, agreeing to accelerate implementation of the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
They reaffirmed their strong interest in maintaining and strengthening the legal framework that links Morocco to the European Union, which is essential to ensure the continued stability of their strategic partnership. They also stressed the importance of the initiatives undertaken by the EU Council relative to agreements on fishing and on agricultural products between Morocco and the European Union.
Minister Di Maio made reference to Italy’s position on the issue of the Western Sahara, as expressed in the Declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership, signed on November 1, 2019, in Rabat, emphasizing Italy’s full support for the efforts of the Secretary General of the United Nations to continue the political process, in accordance with the Resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations, in particular Resolution 2602 of October 29, 2021.
In this connection, Italy welcomes the serious and credible efforts made by Morocco within the framework of the United Nations, and urges all the parties involved to renew their commitment in a spirit of realism and compromise.
The two Ministers also discussed other regional and international issues of mutual interest in depth, starting with the latest developments in Libya.
