Today the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, met with the Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad al Malki, on the sidelines of the seventh edition of the Rome Med Dialogues.
Minister Di Maio reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to a just, sustainable and negotiated two-state solution between the parties, as the key to stability and prosperity in the enlarged Mediterranean.
Reaffirming Italy’s traditional support for the Palestinian Authority, he noted that the start of the electoral process, by calling local elections, could strengthen its authority and legitimacy, in view of the desired reviving of the diplomatic initiative for a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which Italy strongly supports.
The Minister also highlighted how Italian-Palestinian relations are based on a deep-rooted bond of friendship between the peoples and on solid cooperation in many sectors. Italy has long been committed to strengthening Palestinian institutions, as witnessed by the MIADIT mission and its traditional commitment to cooperation, particularly in the fields of health, education and business.
