Italy–Australia. Meeting between the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ettore Francesco Sequi, and the Ambassador of Australia, Margaret Twomey

The Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ettore Francesco Sequi, met the Ambassador of Australia, Margaret Twomey, today.

Ambassador Sequi expressed his satisfaction over the growing amount of high-level contacts between Italy and Australia, which confirms the high quality of bilateral relations. In this context, Ambassador Sequi expressed his hope that the recent introduction of a direct flight from Rome to Perth would further strengthen trade and cultural links between the two countries.

Ambassadors Sequi and Twomey agreed on their shared goal of working to achieve stability and growth in the Indo-Pacific region, on which Italy is focusing increasingly within the wider framework of the European Union’s strategy in that respect.  The Secretary General observed that Australia’s participation in the most recent NATO summit was testimony to the increasingly strong cooperation in security matters. He also expressed his appreciation for Canberra’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the EU, not least in the light of the negotiations for a free trade agreement. Lastly, Ambassador Sequi and Ambassador Twomey reiterated their unceasing support for Ukraine and their condemnation of the unjustified aggression by Russia.
