The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, met Ambassador Earle Courtney Rattray, Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary General of the United Nations, at the Farnesina today.
Their discussion focused on Italy’s full support for the UN and the work of Secretary General Antonio Guterres to boost effective and inclusive multilateralism. On the subject of the conflict in Ukraine, the two Ambassadors analysed the situation on the ground and the wide repercussions of the ongoing crisis, especially as regards energy and food security. Ambassador Rattray noted that the United Nations have helped achieve concrete results with significant humanitarian dimensions, such as the Black Sea grain agreement.
Ambassador Sequi spoke of Italy’s work to mitigate the consequences on the civilian populations of the countries affected. He recalled the second session of the Ministerial Dialogue on food security in the Mediterranean, chaired by Minister Antonio Tajani in early December.
Lastly, the Secretary General of the Farnesina mentioned the significant presence of many UN bodies in Italy, hosted in a number of Italian cities. He underscored our country’s intention to further strengthen its collaboration with the UN.
