The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, welcomes the decision of Kosovo’s political leaders to postpone the municipal elections of 18 December in 4 Serbian-majority municipalities in the light of the serious situation of uncertainty that has arisen during the past few days. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, postponed the vote to the 23rd of April after new elections were called following the mass resignation of all Serbian officials from Kosovo’s various municipal councils.
“Italy approves this wise decision”, said Antonio Tajani. In the morning, the Foreign Minister had once again called Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti to reaffirm that “the region’s stability is an objective of Italy and of Europe”.
The same evening, also the “Quint” Countries (France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, and United States), together with EU representatives, approved Kosovo’s decision: “This constructive decision advances efforts to promote a more secure situation in the north which is key for the EU-facilitated Dialogue as the only way forward to achieve a comprehensive agreement on normalized relations between Kosovo and Serbia.”
