“A cowardly and inhuman attack”. This is how Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, described the despicable attack perpetrated this morning in Nigeria against the parish residence of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin-Koro, Paikoro region, during which Father Isaac Achi was killed while a second priest, Father Collins, was wounded. “This attack is even more brutal and cowardly as the priest died after terrorists set fire to his home,” stressed Tajani. “I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the entire community of the faithful, and to express my appreciation for the prompt response of the police forces. I hope that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice as soon as possible by the authorities, that the root causes behind this crime are addressed, and that measures to protect all Christians in Nigeria are intensified. Attacking places of worship, religious symbols and the people who believe in them, is a violation of one of the most important and fundamental human rights, that of freely professing one’s faith.”
