Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is in New York as part of a diplomatic mission that will see him address the Emergency Special Session on Ukraine of the UN General Assembly and take part in a debate on Ukraine in the Security Council.

Upon his arrival, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani will meet with representatives of the Italian and Italian-American communities at the headquarters of the Consulate General of Italy. The meeting is the first on the Minister’s agenda, testifying to his dedication to his compatriots abroad, who are true Ambassadors of Made in Italy in the world, and whose work in the United States has historically contributed to further strengthening bilateral relations.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 22 February, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani will meet with NYSE Vice Chairman John Tuttle at the New York Stock Exchange headquarters. Tajani will then meet with Gruppo Esponenti Italiani, a platform that brings together leading exponents of the Italian business and finance world in New York. The Deputy Prime Minister’s intervention at the Stock Exchange will promote the initiatives taken by the Italian Government in the field of growth diplomacy and business support, with a particular focus on mutual foreign direct investment and trade. Tajani will then attend a meeting at Casa Italiana Zerilli – Marimò, headquarters of the Department of Italian Studies at New York University, where he will give a speech on the attractiveness of Italy and in particular of the Italian education system for foreign students.

On Thursday 23 February, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani will attend the Emergency Special Session on Ukraine of the UN General Assembly, where the vote on the Resolution for Peace proposed by Ukraine will take place. Bilateral meetings will also be held, including with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and General Assembly President Csaba Korosi.

On Friday 24 February, on the anniversary of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Tajani will take part in a special meeting in virtual format of the OSCE Permanent Council, before participating in the Security Council debate on Ukraine. In the mid-afternoon, before heading back to Rome, Tajani will attend the presentation of the Ryder Cup 2023, which is taking place in Rome in the autumn, at the Consulate.
