Participation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, to the Foreign Affairs Council (Brussels, 20 March 2023)

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani will be in Brussels tomorrow, 20 March 2023, to attend the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union.

The Council, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, will discuss, once again, Russian aggression against Ukraine, and exchange views on the situation in the Balkans. As specifically requested by Italy, the Council will also discuss Tunisia, given the latest developments in the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Tajani will also present Rome’s candidacy for Expo 2030, the only European candidacy, to the other foreign ministers.

In the afternoon, the foreign ministers will meet in joint session with the 27 EU defence ministers to review the status of implementation of the Strategic Compass – the ambitious action plan established by the Union a year ago to strengthen its security and defence policy – and military support for Ukraine.

Finally, some bilateral meetings of Deputy Prime Minister Tajani with European counterparts are planned.
