Visit by the Deputy Minister, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, to the Ciheam in Bari

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, visited the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Bari (Ciheam), accompanied by Ambassador Teresa Castaldo, Director General for Development Cooperation.

Vice Minister Cirielli met with officials, researchers and the 80 scholarship holders from over 15 Mediterranean countries and Africa. Deputy Justice Minister Sisto and Health Undersecretary Gemmato were also present. As stated by the Deputy Minister, “the Mattei Plan launched by the Government shows the new commitment of Italy and, through Italy, of Europe, to enhance the human component of Africa, which is certainly the most important resource for us. From this viewpoint, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute is an excellence. The government will take strong action to provide new momentum through a substantial financial commitment to relaunch the quality of the Institute. There will certainly be an important return at international level for Italy, but also for Bari and the Apulia Region.”
