Today Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, met with the Italian tennis player Elisabetta Cocciaretto at the Farnesina and appointed her as the first “Sports Diplomacy Ambassador”. Thanks to the result obtained last 30 July in the Women’s Tennis Association tournament in Lausanne, the young athlete became one of the top 30 ranked female tennis players in the world, first among the Italians.
“Sport is an excellent tool for peace”, said Deputy Prime Minister Tajani. Based on this belief, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs promotes sports diplomacy through its foreign network and thanks to constant cooperation with sports federations. The integrated promotional activities organised around major international competitions make it possible to enhance the link between sport and other Italian excellences.
