Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is on a mission to Paris to attend the International humanitarian conference for Gaza’s civilian population, convened by French President Macron to coordinate the international community’s support for Palestinian civilians.

The conference will be attended not only by the French Head of State and Authorities from a number of countries, but also by the President of the European Commission Von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Michel, the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine Shtayyeh, UNRWA Commissioner-General Lazzarini, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Griffiths and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Spoljaric Egger.

“Italy has condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist violence perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilian population”, declared Tajani, adding that “we must now focus on doing our utmost to avoid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Italy is ready to do its part, as demonstrated by the deployment of two humanitarian flights to provide immediate aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip”. In this regard, as announced by the Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, the Italian Navy ship Vulcano, equipped with a hospital and operating theatres, is also on its way to the Middle East to assist the wounded in Gaza.

During the conference, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister will inform participants of the importance that the Italian G7 Presidency in 2024 intends to attach to the situation in the Middle East, with the aim of achieving a credible and lasting solution to the crisis, starting with the partners’ support for the Palestinian National Authority and the return to a political process based on the “two peoples two states” principle.

Tomorrow, Friday 10 November, Minister Tajani will also participate in the opening session of the 6th edition of the “Paris Peace Forum”, a platform that brings together governments, international organisations, civil society and the private sector. This edition of the Forum is devoted to the reform of global finance as a tool for fighting poverty and combating climate change.
