The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is taking part in the celebrations of the National Space Day with a programme of initiatives to promote research and the Italian space industry carried out by the diplomatic-consular network, the Italian Cultural Institutes and ICE Offices.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani underlined: “The strong support for the National Space Day reflects the priority given to space diplomacy, which is an integral part of our foreign and security policy and a tool for the internationalisation of companies.” He reiterated that the Foreign Ministry “also thanks to the strengthening of the network of space and scientific attachés serving at Embassies and Consulates, is at the side of companies to seize the opportunities of the new space economy and to encourage investment attraction.”
The Deputy Prime Minister added: “This year’s celebrations are particularly significant in view of the International Astronautical Congress, which Italy will host in Milan in October 2024. This is the reason why we wanted to launch “The Italian Spaceway” project abroad, an exhibition on Italian space research and industry that will travel the world from today and throughout 2024.”
“The Italian Spaceway” exhibition is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Milan IAC 2024 Organising Committee and with editorial curatorship by Focus, the science popularisation brand of the Mondadori Group. It tells the story of the contribution provided by Italian research and “Made in Italy” in the development of space technologies, with specific attention paid to the issue of sustainability. The exhibition provides an engaging and interactive experience to stimulate reflection on the need to protect space and preserve its sustainability for the protection of Planet Earth.
Italy is a leading country in the space sector on a global level, among the first in the world in terms of activities and research: 7 billion Euros of public investment in the 2021-2026 period; a turnover of 2 billion; 300 companies; 12 districts and 6,000 employees.
