Telephone conversation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Antonio Tajani, with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Diana Mondino

Today the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Antonio Tajani, had a telephone conversation with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Diana Mondino.

First of all, Hon. Tajani conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to his counterpart for her assignment, asking her to also transmit his best wishes for the new Argentinian Government to President Milei, who has just taken office.

In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed particular appreciation for the first steps taken by the Casa Rosada, with specific reference to the decisions to reactivate the process of joining the OECD, and to suspend, in parallel, the entry into the group of BRICS countries.

Hon. Tajani underlined: “These are signs which demonstrate the convinced choice by the new Argentinian government to anchor itself to the system of liberal and democratic values of the Western world”.

In expressing his hope of meeting her soon, the Deputy Prime Minister also expressed the Italian government’s full support for the finalization of the EU-MERCOSUR agreement.

Hon. Tajani finally highlighted the Italian government’s political will to relaunch relations with Argentina at all levels, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated: “Italy and Argentina can boast a special relationship, as well as profound historical and cultural bonds, also demonstrated by the fact that the largest Italian community abroad – of whom Minister Mondino is an illustrious representative – lives in Argentina”. He also recalled the positive trends of trade and the interesting prospects for economic cooperation, especially in the energy field, in addition to the already excellent collaboration in the fields of legal diplomacy, science and the fight against organized crime.
