Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held a cordial telephone conversation today with Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco Alvarez, who recently took office as Head of Mexican Diplomacy. During the conversation, the Ministers expressed their desire to further strengthen strategic partnership and economic relations, building on the excellent bilateral relations, as also reaffirmed by Minister Tajani during his visit to Mexico City in May 2025.
Mexico remains among the priority countries in the Action Plan for Italian exports to high-potential non-EU markets, with trade reaching €7.5 billion and over 2,300 Italian companies in the country. Also within the EU, Minister Tajani reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the European Union and Mexico, in light of the recent signing of the EU-Mexico Modernized Comprehensive Agreement, which could lead to new opportunities for Italian companies.
In the cultural sphere, Minister Tajani emphasized the importance of Italy’s participation in the Guadalajara International Book Fair, this year as Guest of Honour. Particular attention was also paid to the sectors of defence, security, and the fight against organized crime, in light of legal diplomacy activities. The two Ministers agreed to stay in touch and meet as soon as possible.
