Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, today held a telephone meeting with the German Minister for Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock.
“First of all, we discussed the issue of safe navigation in the Red Sea and the conflict in Gaza. Ensuring freedom of navigation and the safety of maritime trade is a priority, especially for two exporting countries such as Italy and Germany”, said Tajani. “We are assessing the different operational options together with our European partners” added the Minister.
Tajani then highlighted the importance of further strengthening the relationship between Rome and Berlin both at the bilateral level and in the EU, NATO, G7 and Quint spheres. He also expressed great satisfaction with the Italo-German intergovernmental summit held on 22 November and with the signing of the Action Plan, which the two countries have committed to implementing.
“Minister Baerbock and I discussed the priorities of the Italian G7 Presidency. We have a common vision on many matters and I am sure that our spirit of cooperation will contribute to further raising the level of coordination and cohesion among the G7 partners”, stated the Deputy Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the Ministers discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, agreeing on the need to avoid a regionalisation of the conflict, to lay the foundations for a solid path to peace and to provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza.
