The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reports that three Italian NGO activists, engaged in cooperation activities for the Italian humanitarian organisation CESVI in Tunisia, have been detained in recent days, together with another CESVI staff member, for alleged irregularities related to money withdrawals from a local bank.
The three NGO activists work on some projects in Libya, a country whose banking system maintains a number of restrictions that make it necessary for those working there and in need of currency to make periodic withdrawals of money in Tunisia.
Since the beginning of the affair, the Italian Embassy in Tunis, in close coordination with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has ensured assistance to its Italian nationals and is in constant contact with CESVI, which is providing all the necessary information to the investigating authorities to enable a rapid clarification and a desirable, rapid release of all those involved.
