By delegation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi participated in The Hague in the Conference “Restoring Justice for Ukraine”, organised by the Netherlands, Ukraine and the European Commission.
The Conference explored the various initiatives to combat impunity for crimes perpetrated in Ukraine and the ongoing investigations, both at national and international levels. Participants included the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, the Dutch Foreign Minister, Bruins Slot, the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, inaugurated the formal opening of the Council of Europe’s Register of Damage, of which Italy is a founding member.
In her speech, Undersecretary Tripodi underlined Italy’s continued commitment to Ukraine and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the many initiatives to ascertain responsibility and prosecute the perpetrators of international law violations in Ukraine, highlighting the essential role played by the International Criminal Court and welcoming the opening of the Register of Damage of the Council of Europe as a fundamental step towards restoring violated international legality.
