Italy’s Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi, on behalf of Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, is attending the OECD Ministerial Meeting held in Paris today. The Economic Outlook, a document outlining the future prospects for the global economy, was presented at the meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida.
In her opening remarks, Undersecretary Tripodi expressed the Italian Government’s position on the prospects for enlargement: “We are deeply convinced that a more globally-oriented OECD that is open to new partners from strategic areas of the planet, such as Latin America and the Indo-Pacific, may be able to facilitate the dissemination of good practices and policies aimed at improving the lives of millions of citizens”. She also noted that Italy would continue to do its part to concretely support the Organisation and encourage this journey.
Topics on the OECD agenda include the evolution of the accession process of Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, Romania and the recent applications of Indonesia, Thailand and Argentina, but also issues such as the consolidation of global growth, sustainability, fair trade and investment promotion. Italy is currently playing a leading role, having taken over the chairmanship of the OECD’s External Relations Committee last January following the election of Ambassador Luca Sabbatucci.
