On International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the theme of which this year was “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all”, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, met with representatives of the “Globe MAE” Association – a network of LGBTI employees of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Tajani recalled that “the fight against all forms of discrimination is an integral part of Italy’s commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights at the international level, within the United Nations, the European Union and the Council of Europe.”
“Human rights are universal and inviolable, and must always be guaranteed to all, without distinction or discrimination,” continued Tajani, reiterating his “fervent wish that consensual relations between adults of the same sex be decriminalised in all countries of the world.”
“The fight against discrimination,” concluded the Italian Deputy Prime Minister, “is a fundamental commitment of the Italian government and constitutes a key aspect in building inclusive, peaceful societies that respect diversity, so that all people have the opportunity to actively contribute to the growth and development of their communities and countries, also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
