Italian Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi intervened via video-message at the 14th edition of Taobuk, the literature festival currently taking place in Taormina.
The focus of this year’s edition of the festival is ‘identity’ in its various aspects, including its implications for international politics.
In her speech, Tripodi emphasised how identity is a manifestation of peoples’ values, traditions and culture: a fundamental prerequisite for the very existence of a State, but also a key to relaunching cooperation as an instrument of dialogue between peoples.
The Undersecretary also took the opportunity to congratulate the operators in the publishing industry for the dynamism expressed by the sector on the international markets: “the publishing sector is strategic not only for its economic returns, but also for being an extraordinary means for transmitting values. The Taobuk Festival is certainly one of the best expressions of this sector. This year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Festival have collaborated to promote the Italian literary heritage at two of the most important publishing events in the Mediterranean: the Tunis and Rabat International Book Fairs. In addition, in order to address the growing interest in Italian books worldwide, the #ilmondofralerighe has been created in cooperation with the Ministry. It is a social communication campaign that I invite everyone to join, to become ambassadors of Italian know-how and culture,” concluded Tripodi.
