A little girl who was abducted from her Italian father in 2021 and taken to Poland by her mother, who had disappeared with the child, returned to Italy today.
Right from the start, the Italian Embassy in Warsaw took steps in close coordination with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Unit for the Protection of Italians Abroad to provide assistance to the Italian national, maintaining close contact with his attorneys and raising awareness with the local authorities of the importance of finding the child.
The child’s repatriation from Poland comes a few weeks after the return of another child from Turkey. Both cases have been dealt with by the Disputed Minors Task Force, an inter-ministerial working group chaired by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the unity of the Italian government’s action in such a delicate and complex matter as that of Italian children unlawfully taken out of the country.
“I am happy that the child has finally returned home,” said the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, “and I wish her and her father some peace of mind.” The Deputy Prime Minister also thanked the officials of the Unit for the Protection of Italians Abroad of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the Italian Embassy in Warsaw for their work, emphasising the Italian government’s constant commitment to the protection of Italian nationals around the world, especially minors.
