The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, concluded an official two-day visit to Moldova yesterday.
The main focus of the mission was participation in the Moldova Partnership Platform Ministerial Conference, a forum for medium-to-long-term development and partnership, particularly in light of Moldova’s EU accession process. Italy has actively supported the platform from its inception, including through co-chairing the Working Group on energy and the environment.
The visit also provided an opportunity to explore and outline prospects for further strengthening bilateral cooperation, and to reaffirm Italy’s full support for Moldova. This included the announcement of a 40 million euro aid package for three-year initiatives in the energy, healthcare, and agricultural sectors. Particular attention was given to energy sector initiatives, building on Italy’s longstanding commitment.
On the sidelines of the Moldova Partnership Platform activities, the Deputy Minister also discussed collaboration between the Italian Carabinieri and Moldovan authorities with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, and the Social Security Agreement between Italy and Moldova with the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu.
