Second charter flight organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the repatriation of Italians from Lebanon has taken off

A second flight organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has taken off this evening, as instructed by Deputy Prime Minister Tajani. The flight is headed to Rome’s Fiumicino airport, and is carrying about 150 people on board, including about a hundred Italian citizens and their relatives of Lebanese nationality, as well as about twenty citizens of different European countries and more than thirty Syrian refugees. The latter will be welcomed by the Community of Sant’Egidio as part of a solidarity and reception initiative.

With this operation, made possible also thanks to the contribution of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was able to facilitate the repatriation of all Italian nationals who had expressed a desire to leave Lebanon in the past few days, but who had encountered difficulties due to commercial air flights being unavailable. At the urging of Minister Tajani, it was also possible to organise this second flight quickly, ensuring safe repatriation and providing the necessary assistance to Italian citizens in Lebanon.
