EUR 115 million contributions approved for emergency initiatives

Within the framework of humanitarian development cooperation interventions, the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, has approved financial contributions for a total value of over EUR 115 million for emergency initiatives.

More than EUR 66 million are earmarked for initiatives in Africa, particularly in response to climate change – EUR 28 million, also in response to the drought emergency in the Sahel – support for displaced persons and refugees, health, nutrition, and protection. These include more than EUR 7 million for initiatives in Sudan and support for Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries, in particular Ethiopia and Chad.

In partial implementation of the commitments made in Berlin for the emergency in Ukraine, EUR 23 million were approved for Civil Society Organisations working in the country, while EUR 2 million were allocated to support the humanitarian response in Moldova. New interventions were also approved for Afghanistan (mine clearance) and Colombia (refugee assistance from Venezuela).

Overall, more than EUR 70 million are earmarked for activities in favour of Italian Civil Society Organisations for projects in favour of the vulnerable population in crisis contexts. Italian Cooperation continues to ensure humanitarian response and provide assistance to fragile, displaced, cross-border and host communities.
