Today, Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi attended the annual Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit in Belgrade, by proxy of Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tajani.
The Undersecretary highlighted Italy’s active role in the GPAI, which helped initiate the integrated partnership with the OECD. “Italy has also played a leading role during the G7 presidency, as it produced, among other things, a number of reports on the impact of AI in the labour market, the vademecum for Public Administrations intending to use AI, the map of approaches to digital identity, and the monitoring mechanism of the Hiroshima Code of Conduct,” commented Tripodi, who recalled the need for an international order based on a system of rules and values, as emphasised by Italian Prime Minister Meloni during the G7 meeting in Borgo Egnazia.
The Undersecretary congratulated the Serbian government on the success of the initiative and expressed great satisfaction at the adoption of the Belgrade Declaration, which outlines an ambitious path of cooperation, deepening and debate for the global management of AI.
During the summit, Tripodi had an exchange with the Serbian Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Jelena Begović, which followed the signing of the joint declaration signed on 28 November last in Trieste by the Italian Minister of University and Research Annamaria Bernini together with Minister Begović during the Italy-Serbia Scientific Forum, with the aim of strengthening the excellent cooperation between the two countries.
