The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, participated today in the main events dedicated to the Remembrance Day , in memory of the victims of the foibe and of the Istrian, Fiuman and Dalmatian exodus. The Foreign Ministry and the entire diplomatic-consular network, as well as the Italian Cultural Institutes, joined the celebrations with the aim of keeping the memory of the tragedy alive in the world.
The Minister spoke at the commemoration ceremony organised on 10 February 2025 at the Quirinale Palace, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Minister Tajani concluded his speech by emphasising that “by cultivating the memory of the tragedies we commemorate on the Remembrance Day, we must keep up our guard up against those who deny the fundamental values and principles of civil coexistence”.
On the occasion of the “Friends of the Balkans” Ministerial Meeting, Minister Tajani stressed that the memory of the victims of violence and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia should contribute to the construction of a shared memory with neighbouring countries on the painful events of our eastern border. The example of Nova Gorica – Gorizia as European Capital of Culture in 2025 is a significant step towards overcoming oppositions based on old ideologies and ethnic divisions, in the most authentic spirit of Italy’s, Slovenia’s and Croatia’s common membership of the European Union.
Upon the Minister’s initiative, the inscription “Io Ricordo” (I remember) will light up the Palazzo della Farnesina today.
