The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, met today at the Farnesina with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed the priority of ensuring the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the EU’s agricultural and agri-food sector. Tajani emphasised the need to maintain adequate European funding for agricultural policy. He also highlighted the excellence of the Italian agri-food sector, which represents a key pillar of the national economy and its exports.
In light of existing trade tensions, the Minister reiterated the importance of diversifying economic and trade partnerships through new agreements with third countries, such as the EU-MERCOSUR agreement. Italy follows the same approach, as demonstrated by the new Export Plan for high-potential non-EU countries, launched on 21 March at Villa Madama.
